More pay misery for workers forecast

WORKERS face another year of hard pay bargaining and low rises, with long-term deals not being renewed, according to a new report.

Average settlements could fall, especially if pay freezes are announced for public sector workers, said the Labour Research Department (LRD).

Only one in seven deals in 2010 will involve long-term arrangements, compared with one in four this year, said the research group.

Workers could face a “grim picture” on the pay front next year, depending on the outcome of the general election, it was reported.
