EVERTON FC has used its European clash with Portuguese giants Benfica tomorrow night to thrust the search for Madeleine McCann back into the spotlight.
The club has printed 6,000 T-shirts bearing the slogan “We’re Still Looking For You” – 3,000 in English and 3,000 in Portuguese.
It is urging travelling fans to wear them to help reignite the search to find the youngster, who went missing from the Portuguese resort of Praia de Luz in 2007.
Fans with tickets for the Europa Cup group stage game at Lisbon’s Stadium of Light tomorrow night can pick up a free T-shirt from the club, its two shops or at Liverpool John Lennon Airport before flying out.
Days after Madeleine went missing, the first image parents Gerry and Liverpool-born Kate issued to the media was a picture of Maddie, then aged four, proudly wearing her Everton shirt.
The club said it wants as many fans as possible to wear the T-shirts in the Portuguese capital to highlight the ongoing search for Madeleine.
Everton chairman Bill Kenwright said: “I will never, ever forget that image of a beautiful, smiling child in an Everton shirt.
“I believe I was one of the first people outside the family to see it and it moved me greatly.
“In truth, like everyone else, I have felt nothing but deep sadness and mounting frustration as the search for Maddie has continued.
“However, I continue to be inspired by the dignity and the faith which Kate and Gerry have displayed throughout their dreadful ordeal.”
