International visitors hail their reception in Liverpool - the home of Cunard

As the world-famous Queen Mary 2 arrived in Liverpool, Stephanie O’Connor and Jayne Boothroyd met the passengers

INTERNATIONAL passengers on board the world-famous Queen Mary 2 have spoken of their tremendous reception in Liverpool.

Thousands of spectators flocked to the Mersey yesterday, with some taking ferry trips for a closer look at the most luxurious transatlantic liner in existence.

As travellers stepped from the ship, they were quick to praise the reception they had been given in Liverpool.

The Ibraham family, from Alabama, were overwhelmed by the welcome, with mother Sharon saying: “Seeing all of these people lined up to meet us has been fantastic.

“Even from miles away, boats were coming over to meet us and accompany us into dock, it made it very special.”

Her daughter, Lyndsey Horton, added: “Liverpool is beautiful, I love the way modern and old architecture has been mixed together.

“We’ve got lots planned and I can’t wait to do the Beatles Tour.”

As a must-see location for any fan of popular music, Liverpool had been a major draw for many of the people on board, not least the aptly-named Tom and Kathy Rock, of Williamsburg, Virginia.

Mr Rock said: “We’ve come to see the rock ’n’ roll capital of the world.

“It’s our first time in Liverpool and our first impressions have been fantastic, especially the Liver Building.

“Everyone's been really welcoming, from what we hear the Duck tour is compulsory and we’ve definitely got to pay a visit to the Beatles Museum.

“We’re really excited.”

Another American guest, David Cautes, of South Carolina, was ready to sample the less obvious musical export from Liverpool.
