FORMER Liberal Democrat chief executive Lord Rennard was cleared of wrongdoing in relation to his expenses.
House of Lords authorities investigated the Liverpool-born peer after receiving a complaint he claimed £41,000 for staying overnight in London to attend Parliament when he owns a house just two miles from Westminster.
Clerk of the Parliaments Michael Pownall published a ruling in which he found Lord Rennard’s claims for overnight sub-sistence allowance were “in accord-ance with the rules and guidance on Members’ expenses at the time”.
He rejected allegations Lord Rennard claimed overnight subsist-ence for days he did not attend the Lords.
