THE Lord Mayor of Liverpool attends scores of civic functions each week.
But the winning photograph in October's Reader's Choice competition shows Cllr Mike Storey’s lighter side and excitement at official openings.
Zak Grant was picked out by his fellow Flickr users in an online vote this month as the most popular picture submitted to our gallery of Merseyside images. His light-hearted shot of Cllr Storey opening Liverpool Citizens Advice Bureau won lots of plaudits.
But Mr Grant, a trustee at Liverpool CAB, admits it was not until much later that he realised how good his shot was.
He said: "We had an opening ceremony of our new premises in Union Court, on Cook St. Mayor Cllr Mike Storey came along and officially opened it. As I take my camera everywhere with me, it was too much of a good opportunity not to get a pic. When I got home and went through my pics, I realised I caught a belter."
Terry Donnelly, of redpillphotography.co.uk, was a joint runner-up with his ethereal shot on Crosby beach.

He said: "The image was taken using a specialist filter which allows for a very long exposure in daylight.”
Flickr user “Abhorsen the Final Death”, whose real name is Wesley Jones, was the second joint runner-up with his sunset .

He said: "It was taken at Perch Rock lighthouse. It was a shot I had always wanted to do and all that week there had been great sunsets.."
