Prenton high school for girls
TWO giants of the art world could help run a Wirral school under ambitious plans.
Prenton High School for Girls hopes both Tate Liverpool and Lady Lever Art Gallery, in Port Sunlight, will agree to formally play a part in the academically flourishing arts, science and maths specialist.
Speaking exclusively to the Daily Post, its headteacher, Paula Dixon, last night revealed the school’s bold intentions to “broaden the girls’ horizons”. The plans were unveiled after the school secured government support and a £10,000 start-up fund to develop plans to become a trust school.
As a trust school it will remain as a school in its own right but, if approved, it means they will form a charitable trust board including representatives from the business community.
They can also attract more funding from businesses whose donations can be gift-aided and the tax claimed back.
And last night Mrs Dixon said she hoped the trust board would include the two art heavyweights to build on the school’s artistic strengths.
Unveiling her vision, Mrs Dixon stressed the idea was at the drawing board stage and the trust school proposal would first need to be put before parents.
