Tournament to boost Hillsborough memorial fund

WIRRAL’S Oval Sports Centre is to hold an under-sevens and under-eights football tournament in support of the Hillsborough Memorial Appeal.

The appeal total has reached £16,000 of its £26,500 target to repair the memorial garden in Port Sunlight village after it was seriously vandalised in June this year.

The Port Sunlight Village Trust set up the campaign and it is hoped that enough money will have been raised by Christmas for restoration work to begin in the new year.

Karen Abbott, manager of the Oval Leisure Centre, said: “We are supporting this worthwhile cause as neighbours to the Port Sunlight Garden.”

Entry to the tournament, which takes place on Sunday, December 6, costs £25 per team of six players. All proceeds will go to the Hillsborough appeal.

Commercial soccer school Progressive Soccer lending their expertise on the day providing trophies and coaching staff to act as referees free of charge.
