WIGAN Athletic footballer Marlon King has been jailed for 18 months for groping a young woman and breaking her nose after she spurned his advances.
The 29-year-old player, currently on loan at Championship side Middlesbrough, was immediately sacked by Wigan.
He claimed he was the victim of “mistaken identity”, but a jury at London’s Southwark Crown Court convicted him on a 10-2 majority.
The £35,000-a-week striker, branded “arrogant” by Judge Nicholas Loraine-Smith, was told that in addition to jail he would have to register as a sex offender for seven years, and pay £3,125 compensation and £1,800 prosecution costs.
