A HOSPITAL worker who claimed he kept body parts in his freezer has been struck off after lying about his qualifications.
John Gough, who worked at Warrington Hospital and carried out orthopaedic research at the University of Liverpool, claimed he had a PhD.
However, Gough was actually only qualified to help anaesthetists as an operating department practitioner.
He even trained students at the university when he had no qualifications to do so, and claimed he was authorised to conduct research on dead bodies at the institution, producing a false licence at one stage.
He joked to a colleague at Warrington hospital that he was keeping body parts in his home freezer in connection with his orthopaedic work.
However, none were ever found when police searched the property, after they were alerted by the colleague. Gough was sacked in February last year after the lies were uncovered.
The HPC decision document reads: “The panel find that the registrant’s conduct in misleading colleagues about his educational qualifications and the storage of body parts in his home freezer would be considered dishonest by the ordinary standards of reasonable people.
