Soldiers receive heroes’ welcome on return from Afghanistan
Rfl Richardson said: “I was covering Nathan on patrol when I got shot.
“I thought I’d just fallen over at first, it was only when I went to stand up I realised I’d been shot in an ambush. The lads managed to pull me to safety and carry on the fight – it’s down to them I’m here today.
“I’m not bitter about the situation I’m just glad I’m here. It’s brilliant to see everyone out supporting us.”
Nathan’s proud mother, Lorraine Murphy, added: “The welcome from the people of Liverpool was fantastic, but I wasn’t surprised, the city always takes people to its heart.”
Liverpool’s Lord Mayor, Cllr Mike Storey, said: “We are all immensely proud of the service the regiment gives and we should never underestimate their contribution during peace and military operations.”
