Ellesmere Port company reaches 3m tyres milestone

AN ECO-FRIENDLY company has recycled its three millionth tyre – enough to stretch from its base in Ellesmere Port to Barcelona.

DUNweedin', at Canal Side, near Oil Sites Road, passed the landmark in just five years, doing more than its bit to solve the problems associated with the millions of car tyres discarded by motorists in Britain every year.

Company director Graham Glassbrook said: “It’s a great landmark to reach, but we have no intention of stopping here.

“Stretched out, the tyres would cover more than 1,000 miles of road, which shows we are having a major impact in dealing with the problem.”

DUNweedin’ uses tyres to create safety mats and chippings for children’s playgrounds.
