Gang use fireworks to rob Liverpool bank

A GANG of robbers held up a Liverpool bank using fireworks.

The gang of four, all wearing dark clothes and masks to cover their faces, attacked a cash delivery being made to the Lloyds TSB branch in Longmoor Lane, Walton Vale, yesterday.

The robbers struck as a guard made the drop-off at just before 10am.

Two followed the guard in to the bank while a third stayed in the doorway.

He lit several hand-held fireworks and stood blocking the door, stopping members of the public from getting inside.

The pair inside the bank then attacked the guard, punching him in the face as they tussled for the cash box. Once they had pulled the box from him, they fled to a car waiting outside and sped off.

The guard suffered a split lip and was treated at the scene for shock.

The getaway car – a silver Volkswagen Golf – was found burnt out in nearby Harradon Road 10 minutes later. It is thought the gang switched to another car to complete their escape.
