A UNIQUE vision of Liverpool’s iconic Anglican cathedral, captured from inside a taxi cab, is the winning entry in a Daily Post photographic competition.

Nearly 100 top-class shots depicting the cathedral were uploaded to the Daily Post’s Flickr page.

Images ranged from intimate portraits of devotion to grandiose views of the building’s vaulted ceilings.

The overall winner was Zak Grant’s unique vision of the building captured from inside a Liverpool taxi.

The judges said: “The picture highlights the cathedral’s importance as a symbol of home for many people when they arrive or leave Liverpool, and that it suggests its ‘protective’ nature as a place where people are free to worship, reflect and explore their beliefs.”

Zak will now get a one-to-one session with former Post photographer and national award winner, Martin Birchall.

Architect Ian Bramham won first prize in the adult category for his figure of a lone woman in the Cathedral.

He said: “Photography is one of those things in life which I find endlessly fascinating. It can often be deeply frustrating, yet equally there are many moments when it can be an uplifting and magical experience – a good example being when it was announced that I'd won.”

Second prize in the adult category went to John Kennan for his image of natural light in the cathedral ceiling.

He said: “I was extremely surprised when my name was called out as the quality of the other entries was superb.”

Competition organiser Rachael Aron said: “We chose the theme ‘My Cathedral’ to encourage this personal response, and we were certainly not disappointed.

“The pictures have placed the Cathedral in a variety of contexts, some people-based shots, some interior shots, but all of them have the cathedral at their heart.

“We are absolutely delighted with the standard of entries.”
