Dave Kirby at Anfield 300
LIVERPOOL FC’s stadium tours have turned into a “show stopper”, thanks to a complete rewrite by Brick Up the Mersey Tunnels creator Dave Kirby.
Mr Kirby, a lifelong Red, put all other projects on hold to get involved in writing a new script for the tours – the first overhaul in more than a decade.
Fans are now able to take advantage of more scheduled trips around the Anfield ground and take in areas never before open to the public, including the directors’ box and press room, as part of a new, interactive and more theatrical experience.
The playwright will now work on an accompanying script for the ground’s museum housing the club’s silverware, including the European Cup LFC was given to keep after winning the title five times.
Mr Kirby spent weeks shadowing the club’s all-knowing stewards and guides to pick their brains for the right material for the 15-minute script.
Impressionist Darren Farley, known for his comic takes on many of Liverpool’s best-known characters, is providing a voice- over for parts of the tour and the club promises to keep the jokes topical and current.
Guides have also been given lessons on how to deliver the new script in an entertaining way.
