Man hit by shotgun fire in Kirkby still in critical condition

A MAN remained critically in hospital last night after being shot.

Darren Delaney, 23, was blasted at close-range with a shotgun near to the Kingfisher pub, in Bewley Drive, Kirkby, late on Friday.

He is being treated for chest and stomach wounds. Police have yet to speak to him properly, as he is said to be heavily sedated.

It is believed the gunman escaped in a car.

Five people have been arrested.

Detectives have questioned three men, aged 20, 23 and 51, and two women, aged 47 and 22.

Two of the men arrested are thought to have been with the victim when the attack happened.

They are all from the Kirkby area and have been bailed pending further enquiries.
