SEVEN million TV viewers across the North- West were taking part in the biggest overnight change to TV in UK history, as the digital switchover was due to get under way.
Switchover was expected to begin in the Granada TV region during the early hours of this morning, when the BBC Two analogue channel was being turned off for good.
On December 2, the remaining analogue channels BBC One, ITV1, Channel 4 and Five will also be permanently switched off.
Terrestrial TV will be off air for some viewers in the region until the first stage of the switchover is completed by late this afternoon.
Once services are back on air, viewers of Freeview, BT Vision and Top Up TV should then retune their equipment.
