A NEW food recycling scheme collected more than 42 tonnes in its first four weeks.

About 4,000 Knowsley people have been recycling a range of food waste, including leftovers from their plates, vegetable peelings, tea bags and scraps of bread.

David Coulson, Knowsley council’s executive director of neighbourhood services, said: “We are delighted with the success of the new service and would like to thank residents for their support and co-operation in separating their waste.”
