Man, 23, critical as gunman shoots him in back in Fazakerley

A MAN was in a critical condition last night after being shot in the back during a night of gun crime.

Police were called to Gribble Road, in Fazakerley, soon after 7pm last night, following reports of gunfire.

A 23-year-old man had presented himself for treatment in Fazakerley Hospital with wounds to the back and buttock.

In an unrelated incident, officers were later called to Lordens Road, in Huyton, after a street saw a number of shots fired for the second time this year.

In the Fazakerley incident, police said the 23-year-old victim had been in the company of friends at shops in the Gribble Road area when he was approached by a man who fired the shots.

Police said last night the investigation was in its very early stages and house-to-house inquiries were being carried out.

They added that patrols were being increased in the area and the motive behind the attack was not yet clear.

In the second incident, shocked residents initially mistook bangs for fireworks at 8.50pm.

Police had already been called to a similar incident in July when two passers-by narrowly escaped injury when a car was hit.
