PLANS to develop a cultural centre in Southport are a step closer to reality after a £4m boost from the Northwest Development Agency (NWDA).
Earlier this year, the Commission for Architecture and Built Environment (CABE) also pledged a £4m grant towards the scheme, which includes a proposal to link up Lord Street's Grade II listed Arts Centre, library and art gallery to include an improved theatre, museum and music venue.
The plan, however, will require a significant investment from Sefton Council.
The Cabinet Committee has already voted to support the project in principle with a sum of £7.3m.
A special meeting of the Cabinet Committee will be held next week
