Wirral ‘beauty in the bath’ murder case could be reopened

CLUES concealed in a lost bundle of forensic evidence could re-open one of Merseyside’s most notorious murder cases.

The file has re-emerged 26 years after the crime – and nearly a decade after a Wirral businessman was convicted of the killing.

John Taft is currently serving a life sentence for suffocating beauty technician Cynthia Bolshaw.

Her naked body was found in the bath of her luxury Heswall bungalow in 1983. The murder investigation became known as the Beauty in the Bath case.

Now a bundle of scientific notes lost, presumed destroyed, has re-surfaced.

His lawyer said it could hold the keys to proving Taft’s innocence and a new suspect could emerge.

Taft, the managing director of glass company, was given a life sentence with a minimum 12-year tariff at his trial at Liverpool Crown Court in December, 1999.

He later had an appeal against the conviction thrown out.
