Liverpool's DaDaFest puts on burlesque night with a unique twist

IT’S one of Liverpool’s most glamorous – and unique – annual events.

One of the most anticipated highlights of the DaDaFest deaf and disabled arts festival, DaDaLesque has been running for the last three years.

It was set up by city-based artists Millie Dollar and Diva Hollywood, who have both forged successful international careers as burlesque stars.

Their adoring crowds often don’t realise that Millie is hearing-impaired, and Diva lives with multiple sclerosis.

So they set up a special event as part of DaDaFest to celebrate their art and show that disability need not be a barrier to glamour.

“When we started these nights, we wanted to do sexuality with disability – it’s something that’s still quite taboo,” said Millie.

“A disabled person isn’t really seen as a sexual person with urges and desires.

“But we’re all human, and we all like to be sexy and feel sexy.

“It’s really bringing something new, and people loved it so we have carried on every year.”
