First remembrance cross laid at Liverpool’s St John’s Gardens

IVERPOOL’S tribute to its war heroes started yesterday.

Lord Mayor Mike Storey laid the first remembrance cross at St John’s Gardens.

Tomorrow, thousands of people are expected to attend the city’s annual service.

It starts at the cenotaph, at St George’s Plateau, at 10.55am, with a two-minute silence at 11am.

Images of wartime Liverpool will be displayed on Lime Street’s giant screen. HMS Roebuck, the Royal Navy’s only remaining coastal survey vessel, is in Liverpool as part of the commemoration.
