“It’s great that Mod fans have finally got a place and event to go to in their own city and I hope this could become an annual event.”Liverpool Mod musician Terry Shaughnessy and his band The Universal will top the bill of the weekend taking place on Saturday and Sunday, May 1-2.

Small Faces tribute, Liverpool’s Beatbrothers, Portside UK, Wellerman, and Wallgate Circus are among the other bands brought together for the special and premier event.

For many, being a Mod is a way of life with music and fashion at the centre of it all, and for many, the scooter is the chosen mode of transport.

The roots of the Mod scene can be traced back to the late 1950’s but it really took hold in the early 1960’s with bands such as Small Faces and The Who.

Towards the middle to end of the 1960’s the Mod scene started to dwindle in popularity, but in the late 70’s there was a revival, largely inspired by the 1979 film Quadrophenia and Mod influenced bands such as The Jam, Secret Affair, Purple Hearts and The Chords.

In the 1990’s the Britpop scene was heavily influenced by the Mod culture with new bands gaining popularity such as Oasis, Blur and Ocean Colour Scene.

The Beatles were seen by some as Mods, but it was east London band Small Faces and The Who that were more associated with the scene.

Apart from the style of music, fashion was also at the heart of this culture, sharp suits, the mini skirt, and Parkas being adopted as their clothing wear when riding on a scooter.

Weekend tickets are £30 and are on sale now from Ticketmaster.
