NEARLY five million households are missing out on energy savings by failing to take up grants to help insulate their homes.
The Home Heat Helpline said families could knock around £150 a year off their heating bills by insulating their lofts, while they could cut them by a further £115 a year if they had cavity wall insulation.
But despite the savings on offer, the group warned people were failing to take advantage of money that is available from energy suppliers.
The research, carried out by think tank the New Policy Institute, highlighted Liverpool as among the areas most likely to be missing out on grants.
