Rush hour traffic chaos after Liverpool city centre collision

A MAN was taken to hospital following a rush-hour traffic accident in Liverpool city centre.

Traffic went down to one lane with long tailbacks after two cars collided at the junction of Old Hall Street and Leeds Street at 4.15pm yesterday.

One motorist was trapped in his car, and was freed by the fire service and taken to the Royal Liverpool Hospital.

He was not thought to be seriously injured in the collision.

It is thought the incident may have occurred because the traffic lights at the junction were out of action all day.

Liverpool Council confirmed an engineer had been attempting to fix the problem throughout the day after the lights were damaged in a crash in the early hours of the morning.
