ACTOR David Morrissey unveiled his directorial debut to a packed audience at Liverpool’s FACT last night.
The Kensington-born star stepped behind the camera to make his first feature film, Don’t Worry About Me.
The film was based on The Pool, a play he had seen at the Edinburgh Festival, which he adapted along with Helen Elizabeth and James Brough, who wrote the play and starred in the film.
He also took questions from the audience at the end of the screening.
The event was part of Clapperboard Presents and made £2,000 for the Clapperboard Youth Project.
The 80-minute film will be featured on the BBC in February.
Speaking at the Q&A session, Morrissey said: “It was important for me to make the film in Liverpool.
“It was a great experience and those I worked with made it possible.
“This city is really welcoming to film making. There is a great ‘can do’ attitude which you do not get everywhere.”
Of the Clapperboard project, he said: “The inspirational work they do with young people, helping them find a voice through the use of film, is fantastic.
“My advice to young people is if you have story to tell, you can make it. Just keep trying.”
The film follows David (James Brough) when a one-night stand goes wrong and he is stranded in Liverpool. He then meets Tina (Helen Elizabeth) and their worlds change in a day.
