A MAN appeared in court charged with the murder of a West Lancashire businessman.
Michal Kalinowski, 21, did not enter a plea at the hearing at Ormskirk magistrates yesterday morning.
Kalinowski is charged with murdering 43-year-old Peter Berkley in Skelmersdale last Friday.
Mr Berkley’s body was discovered the following morning at a flat in Abbeystead, Little Digmoor.
Police confirmed he was stabbed to death.
Mr Berkley was company secretary of Abbeystead Northwest Ltd, which owns the property where the incident happened.
Kalinowski was arrested in Hamilton, Scotland, on Sunday.
In court, he was stood behind a glass screen, flanked by guards, and spoke only to confirm his name.
He was assisted by an interpreter throughout the hearing.
Several people sat in the public gallery to listen to the hearing and some wept as the Kalinowski stood before magistrates.
He was remanded in custody to appear at Preston Crown Court at 10am on Monday November 23.
