Terence Conran wins design award

SIR Terence Conran was honoured at an awards ceremony celebrating the best of British design.

The Habitat founder and restaurateur was presented with the outstanding contribution to design accolade at the British Design Awards by supermodel Erin O’Connor and designer Tom Dixon.

The 78-year-old, who trained at London’s Central St Martins College, was credited by the judging panel for having more influence on the way Britons shop, decorate their homes and dine out than any other designer of his generation.

Described as the “Oscars of the design world”, more than 200 of the UK’s creative elite attended the ceremony including Sir Terence, Zandra Rhodes and John Rocha. The awards recognise the best new work launched by British designers in the past 12 months.
