THE captain of Waterloo RUFC’s second team smashed an opponent in the face with a “roundhouse punch”, a court heard.
Christopher Wolfenden, 40, of Hawthorne Avenue, Burscough, denies inflicting GBH on a Chester player during a home game on September 27 last year.
Yesterday, Chester forward Gareth Sanger told Liverpool Crown Court he saw the defendant knock Barry Holmes unconscious.
Mr Sanger, 34, said: “I noticed the Waterloo number six (Wolfen-den) was on the Chester side of the maul.
“Barry came in from the side and basically tried to grab hold of his shirt from behind and pull him away.
“The number six turned and punched Barry. It was a sort of roundhouse motion. The fist was closed.”
The case continues.
