A WHOLESALE switch to electric cars may not necessarily reduce CO2 emissions or dependence on oil, a report prepared for the Environmental Transport Association said.
It was unlikely that electric vehicles would number more than 25% of new sales by 2050, the report added.
It said there were significant potential environmental benefits to be had from a switch to electric vehicles.
But it added that these benefits were wholly dependent on changes in how power was generated, energy was taxed and CO2 emissions regulated.
