Four people held after fatal stabbing in Netherton

FOUR people have been arrested by detectives investigating the murder of a man found at a house on Merseyside.

The body of the 31-year-old male was found at the house on St Augustine Way, Netherton, in the early hours of Saturday.

Police closed the entire length of the street as detectives carried out inquiries.

Initial reports suggested that the victim had been assaulted and had received serious head injuries.

But yesterday the preliminary results of a post-mortem examination established that he actually died from a single stab wound.

Elderly neighbours of the property said they had been left “shocked and confused” by what happened on their doorstep.

It is understood the victim and his family had recently moved to the Netherton area, but largely kept themselves to themselves.

Yesterday, police arrested a 38-year-old woman, from Bootle, on suspicion of murder.

Another three people were also arrested for the same offence.

A 22-year-old woman from Netherton was arrested at the scene and two men aged 34 and 48 were arrested a short time later in Litherland and Crosby. All four were last night being questioned at various police stations across Merseyside.

Carol Cooney, manageress of the nearby Netherton and Sefton British Legion, said: "I can't believe what's happened. You never hear anything like that happening around here.”
