Wirral New Brighton's new £160,000 lifeboat launched

A WIRRAL lifeboat crew has taken delivery of a new £160,000 boat.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institute's (RNLI) newest Atlantic 85 B class lifeboat has officially gone into service at New Brighton.

The boat, called Charles Dibdin, replaces the Rock Light, which has been stationed there since 1996.

New Brighton's Atlantic 85 is the 51st RNLI lifeboat to be provided by The Lifeboat Fund, an official charity of the Civil Service, Royal Mail and BT. Lifeboat operations manager Cliff Downing said: “The Atlantic 85 will enable our volunteer lifeboat crew to carry out their life-saving work more safely and effectively than ever before.”
