COUNCILS across the country have reassured thousands of meals-on-wheels customers that their deliveries would continue after the collapse of a major supplier.
Seven councils – including St Helens – were forced to arrange new suppliers over the weekend after Flowfood fell into administration.
Administrator MCR said a failure to find a buyer for the business meant the company had ceased production and all 130 staff made redundant.
Philip Duffy, partner at MCR, said: “This case will impact many local authorities and their ability to deliver meals-on-wheels to thousands of people across the country.”
Many of the councils said they had organised new contracts.
A spokeswoman for St Helens said the council had suspected Flowfood was in difficulty and had already started a trial with another firm.
She added: “No-one has been left without a meal.”
Leeds-based Flowfood and its sister companies, Economy Kitchens and Laughton Bros, of Ashton-under-Lyme, went into administration on Friday.
Economy Kitchens supplied chilled foods to Flowfood.
