Public invited to Cheshire windfarm scheme

PEEL Energy is inviting Cheshire residents to learn about proposals for a major renewable energy scheme, potentially meeting the energy needs of 30,000 homes.

Peel Energy hopes to build up to 21 wind turbines on Cheshire land which, up until now, has been used as deposit ground for dredgings from the neighbouring Manchester Ship Canal.

If approved, the wind farm could meet electricity needs of around 30,000 local households – equivalent to more than one fifth of the homes in Cheshire and West Cheshire.

Public exhibitions have been organised later this month in Frodsham, Elton and Helsby to allow local communities to discover more about the scheme.

Senior Development Manager Richard Dibley said: "we are keen to engage with local people from an early stage.

"Nobody knows the area better than those who live and work there, and we want to hear from them how the wind farm can be accommodated beside their communities."A range of information will be displayed at the exhibitions, including proposed layout plans, photo-montages of the scheme and details of the extensive studies being carried out.

Exhibitions will be held on November 25, from 12pm to 8pm at Main Street church, Frodsham; on November 27 from 10am-6pm at Elton community Centre, and on November 28, from 10am-3pm at Helsby Community Centre.

Mr. Dilby added: "Everyone is aware of the desperate need to tackle climate change and this scheme would help the North West to play it’s part.

"There are many myths about wind farms - we hope as many people as possible will join us at the exhibitions to find out the facts for themselves."
