£7m health centre and library plan for Liverpool Childwall Fiveways unveiled

MULTI-MILLION pound plans to regenerate land at a busy south Liverpool junction were unveiled last night.

The £7m health centre and library would be built at Childwall Fiveways, the current library’s location.

It would incorporate land from Childwall College and house new classrooms for the secondary school.

Liverpool Primary Care Trust plans to start consulting the public for eight weeks from next Monday, providing the city council’s health committee authorises it at a meeting tomorrow.

If residents are supportive of the idea and planning permission is granted, building work could start as early as next summer, with the centre opening 12 months later.

Doctors from Oakvale Medical Centre and Childwall Valley Road Surgery have expressed an interest in moving to the new centre.

It would partly be funded by Government co-location funding.

Yvonne Nugent, head of stakeholder engagement at the PCT, said: “We are really excited about the proposal.

“It is a great partnership between the school, the library and the PCT.

“If the scheme goes ahead, it will mean a brand new health centre and library for Childwall.

“Two doctor’s surgeries, which are currently in houses, have expressed an interest in moving to the centre.

“Lots of health services would be offered – like blood testing – which are not available at the moment.

“The new building would also provide Childwall College with three modern classrooms and two offices for use by the sixth-form students and staff, making up a modern education centre with access to the new library.

“At the moment, some pupils are using mobile classrooms, so it will be a huge improvement.”
