OTHER notable people included on the Queen’s birthday honours list were Frances Lawrence, widow of murdered headteacher Philip Lawrence, who received an MBE.
She described it as an “appropriate memorial” to her husband.
Mr Lawrence was 48 when he was stabbed as he tried to intervene in a scuffle outside the gates of his London school in 1995.
Since her husband’s death, Mrs Lawrence has championed young people and tried to counter negative portrayals of youngsters in the media and political debate.
Likely Lads star James Bolam was also at Buckingham Palace to receive an MBE for his services to drama.
Jazz musician Courtney Pine collected his CBE from the Prince of Wales.
The 45-year-old, who came from a reggae and funk background, has brought jazz to the masses.
He said he was “deeply moved” on being given the award.
