Big wheel turns for Christmas celebration
LIVERPOOL One’s giant big wheel has started to take shape.
The ride – unmissable from its temporary home in Chavasse Park – has nearly been completed ahead of its opening to the public later this week.
The 60m high, 365-tonne wheel – a smaller version of the London Eye – could possibly open tomorrow, subject to passing health and safety checks.
It will take its passengers on a 15-minute ride that should offer spectacular views of the city.
The Liverpool One Wheel will cost £6 a go and will run until January 31.
Contractors worked throughout the day yesterday as the big wheel began to take shape.
They began by securing the base of the ride before beginning on the wheel, which was nearly visibly complete by end of play yesterday.
It is being constructed by the Mellors fairground family, who have moved into corporate events after specialising in fun rides for three generations.
