Ninth annual Liverpool DaDaFest launches in style with taste of talent on offer

DEAF and disabled arts festival DaDaFest launched last night with an event offering the public a taste of what is to come throughout the three-week event.

Mike McCartney was among those celebrating the launch of the 2009 festival at the Bluecoat.

Speakers included Liverpool City Council leader Cllr Warren Bradley, Aileen McEvoy of Arts Council England, and DaDa CEO, Ruth Gould.

Guests were entertained by “sign dancer” Caroline Parker, with performances from nationally renowned comedian Paul Betney, as well as a poetry reading from Craig McDonald and songs from Susan Hedges.

Ruth Gould said: “This year’s festival promises to be bolder and more exciting than ever, and we are thrilled to be kicking things off in style.”
