Prominent Liverpool amateur cricketer and doctor John Winter dies

A PROMINENT Liverpool amateur cricketer and doctor has died.

Dr John Winter passed away earlier this month, aged 90, after suffering from ill health.

He was a consultant radiologist at Walton Hospital, but also a very successful sportsman.

Dr Winter first played for Northern Cricket Club in Crosby in 1937 and was a life member and former president.

In 1955, he secured the Liverpool Competition record for the most runs in a season by one player, and held it for more than 50 years.

Dr Winter is survived by his wife, Joyce.
