A spokeswoman for Wirral Council said: "Consultants are generally engaged because they have expertise and a subject knowledge which is not available in- house. It is also often more cost effective than using in- house staff.
"We are confident our use of consultants represents a good use of tax payers’ money.
"The spend of £92,500 on consultants for the New Brighton Development can be mainly broken down into legal fees and consultants to help with funding applications. This initial outlay levered in external funding of £8.25m for the development."
"The £10,236 for consultants for Hoylake Municipal Golf Club was specialist advice on developing a drainage scheme for the course which is in the capital programme – worth about £400,000.
"The £4,319 was for a survey of existing parks provision which is required to prepare a Parks and Green Space Strategy as part of the Local Development Framework."
