Strike at Walton prison 300
He said he couldn’t rule out further strikes.
“It depends what happens on Monday. If we have an outcome that satisfies everyone that would be the end of it. If not, we would have to assess the situation.”
Phil Wheatley, National Offender Management Service director general, said: “It was unnecessary, unsafe and did not befit members of a disciplined service.
“It put staff who remained at their posts and prisoners at risk.
“Staff who took strike action and so failed to work normally according to their scheduled shift will lose pay as a result of their actions.
“Inducing industrial action in a prison is unlawful. I want to thank staff who worked through the strikes for their professionalism”
