Aintree Racecourse Christmas event to include two races over Grand National course

AROUND 144 Christmas trees would be needed to make up Aintree’s famous Bechers Brook jump.

And this Sunday the famous fence will be at the heart of a special festive race meeting.

Northwest Racing Masters weekend is the only time outside the annual Grand National meeting when Bechers is used.

The fence itself is made from Fitka Spruce from Matterdale, in the Lake District, and will be used for two races over the Grand National course.

The spruce will then be used as a natural material for planting around the racecourse throughout the year.

The Christmas-themed family race day at Aintree will host a range of attractions for all the family, including shopping, crafts and a Santa’s grotto, complete with reindeer.

Tickets for the day are on sale and cost £19 for adults.

Children accompanied and aged 16 and under go free.
