WIRRAL South MP Ben Chapman says he supports the right of women to become bishops as well as priests.
Speaking in the House of Commons, Mr Chapman said: “There are quite a lot of people in this country – churchgoers and others – who value the fact that our established church is the original broad church.
“If we want it to stay that way, it does mean that, within limits, it needs to continue being genuinely inclusive.”
He added gender equality issues were for “members of the General Synod to wrestle with” and urged the Church to remain united.
