Six year old Wirral writer may be nation’s youngest published author

AT JUST six years old, a young writer from Wirral is thought to be the youngest published author in the country.

Charlotte Jordan, from Bromborough, wrote her book, The Dancing Dinosaur, after being inspired by a visit to her Brookhurst Primary school by writer Damian Harvey during Bookweek.

Just five years old when she started her book, young Charlotte has since turned six in October – making her one of the youngest ever published authors.

Her mother, Karen, said: “She’s only just started to learn to read and write – we do have to decipher her words sometimes – but she did it all herself.

“She even put page numbers on, designed the front cover, put in a contents page and put future books in the series on the back.

“We’re so proud of her. It just took off and that was it.

“Who knows whether she will do this forever, or whether it’s something she is just going to enjoy for now.”

Charlotte also reads her stories to her family, including younger sister Amelia, four, and has read it out to her class.

Her favourite subject is reading and writing, but Charlotte also likes to spend time playing, and said she thinks it is her good imagination which has helped her complete the book.

She even said she has other books in the pipeline including Brand New Pirates, The Naughty Cat, and The Ten Legged Octopus.

She said: “When I read my book out in school, they all said it was really good.”
