Andy Burnham M.P. Secretary of State for Health speaks to the staff at the newly opened Victoria Central Health centre, Mill Lane, Wallasey
HEALTH Secretary Andy Burnham visited Merseyside yesterday to open a £14m health centre.
Victoria Central health centre, in Wallasey, houses three GP practices and a range of services over two floors, including dental care and physiotherapy.
Community nurses run diabetes, leg ulcer and child health assessment clinics from the new centre, and it also has the equipment to carry out minor surgery.
During his visit, Mr Burnham toured one of the GP practices, spoke to staff and patients attending clinics, visited physiotherapy facilities and dropped into a baby-weighing session.
The MP also met with social services staff from Wirral Council, who work alongside district nurses and other NHS Wirral staff at Victoria Central to develop services.
He said: “This is an impressive health centre and the people of Wallasey and the surrounding areas will benefit tremendously from it.
“This is an excellent example of providing services in a high- quality, state-of-the-art health centre.
