A report to the council’s excellence scrutiny committee said adult social services faces projected pressures of £2.6m.

However, these are being partially offset by actions to redesign services which are expected to reduce the projected overspend to £1.1m.

The report, by director of finance Ian Coleman, said there were also significant pressures on the budget of children’s services “largely as a result of additional demands that have been placed on care services”.

He said: “While actions have been taken to reduce costs, residential care projections are for a £1.9m overspend.

“Further measures, including vacancy control and the use of grants, reduce the projection to £1.1m.

“This is a reduction from the £2.5m projected overspend.”

Car parks income from pay and display tickets is anticipated will be “under-achieved” by £180,000, and income from penalty notices – parking tickets – will be “under-achieved” by £100,000.
