TWENTY fallen heroes of World War I were added to the Hall of Remembrance at the town hall last night.

The Lord Mayor, Cllr Mike Storey, led a dedication ceremony to add the names to the roll of honour.

He said: “We recently set up a database of the listings from the Hall of Remembrance on the City Council’s website so members of the public can search for their relatives. As a result, a further 20 names have been identified and will be added to the Roll of Honour.

“The event is all about paying respect to the brave men who we are adding to the city’s Roll of Honour.

“As the inscription says on the unveiling plaque ‘Their name liveth for evermore’.”

Edward Humphreys, 66, from Liverpool, discovered that both his father’s uncle and cousin were both omitted from the roll of honour when they were published on the council’s website in November last year.

He said: “I have been doing the family tree for 20 years and I am a member of the Western Front Association and have done a lot of research into World War I.

“In my research I realised two of my family members , Arthur De Abaitua and Juan Baptiste De Abaitua, were missing from the roll of honour.

“I contacted the council and was asked to produce evidence that they were from Liverpool. I am delighted to have been invited. It is acknowledging the service the two of them, and others, did for our country.
