He said: “As a council, one of our priorities is to reduce the carbon footprint and it is great that newly designed schools are leading the way.”
And he said it was clear the academy’s plan would have educational spin-off benefits: “It is a win, win situation as we are not only being good to the environment, but setting the right example for children who will learn about the importance of green issues and take that message home.”
Headteacher Carole Evans said the academy was “aware that we have a responsibility to the environment” reflected in initiatives ranging from pupils attending green debates to a popular school eco-group.
She said pupils would be consulted on the design which was at “a very early stage”.
She added: “ We welcome the opportunity to visit this issue as part of our building and refurbishment programme.”
