Liverpool gay bar offers self defence classes after homophobic attacks

A GAY club is launching a series of self-defence classes, following the high-profile attack on off-duty police officer James Parkes.

G Bar, in Liverpool's gay district, will offer the first two classes for free and they are open to anyone in the gay and lesbian community.

PC James Parkes was attacked by a gang of up to 20 youths last month as he left Superstar Boudoir with three friends.

Neil James, promotions manager for the club, said: "After the recent spate of homophobic beatings within the city, I decided enough was enough. it’s time to fight back Šand I wantedŠ to hold self- defence classes at the club.ŠI spoke with kick-boxing champion Brendon Mitty, who was more than happy to help.”

ŠThe classes will be held every Thursday, 7-8.30pm, starting from Thursday, December 3.

G Bar will pay for the first two lessons for every person who attends.
