“The offenders who carried out this indiscriminate attack on a busy route in and out of they city need to be caught. I would appeal to members of the community who have any information which could help us with our investigation to come forward.
“We will not tolerate the use of guns on the streets of Merseyside and the actions of these people are completely unacceptable. We will do everything within our power to find those responsible and put them before the courts. We will act on all information received in connection with the use of firearms.”
The junction of the M62 with the Rocket was cordoned off whilst forensic examinations took place and was reopened on Sunday morning.
House-to-house inquiries have been carried out and high visibility patrols have been stepped up in the area to reassure the community.
